given the vertical opportunity due to the existing structure, a free-standing loft was proposed where headroom was available and a singular roof penetration was proposed in a lower head room area that would also introduce natural daylight to the entire unit, serving multiple purposes without compromising the integrity of the existing roof diaphragm
